

Falmouth-Mary (Betty) McCarvel age 90 of Westbrook passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 11, 2013 at Falmouth by the Sea. Mary was born in Watford, England on August 1, 1922. She attended school in England and worked for the British Civil Service during World War II in the Departments of Pensions and Meteorology. While at a dance on the Isle of Man at the end of the war, Mary met Francis McCarvel and they were married on May 22, 1948. They then moved to the U.S. on September 21, 1954 and lived in Long Island, NY. Their son, Henry McCarvel, was born in 1961. The family moved to Maine in 1978 from Bucks County, PA. Mary worked and volunteered up until 3 years ago at Falmouth by the Sea where she was known as “Queen Mary”. She became a US Citizen on December 15, 2006. Mary enjoyed gardening, going out to breakfast, being a Boston Celtics fan, and Izzy & Maddie.
Francis McCarvel died September 27, 1988. Her sister Lucy Woodward passed away March of 2012.
Mary is survived by her son Henry and his girlfriend Rose along with nieces and nephews Andrew, Jane, Margie, Peter, and Caroline. She is also survived by her loving friends Sharon, Doris, and Lillian.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Monday June 17, 2013 from 2 to 4 P.M. at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine.
