Westbrook- Mary Margaret Perham Moore died peacefully at her residence on Saturday, 14-August-2021. She was born the youngest of four children on 9-August-1946 in New Haven, CT. Mary had many interests, including photography, hiking, camping, gardening, Russian culture and classical music. A lifelong learner, she enjoyed meeting new people and participating in new experiences. One of her fondest memories was working two summers at Camp Phoenix fishing camp in Millinocket, ME. At age 24, she was encouraged by her family to go to Nepal and hike the Himalayan mountains.
Her education included an Associate in Science from Quinnipiac College, successful completion of Yale-New Haven Hospital School of Medicine’s course in inhalation therapy (now respiratory therapy) and Bachelor of Science-Environmental Science from the University of New Haven. She moved to Maine when she was hired as a respiratory therapist at Maine Medical Center. Here she met and married her husband Brian, and worked for over 30 years in the same department. Mary and Brian had two children and she was actively engaged in both of their lives.
Summertime fun with her children included attending the Ossippee Valley Fair, camping, hiking Mt. Katahdin, road-tripping to her mother’s home in Woodbridge, CT, and poolside fun at her sister & brother in law’s home. She cheered from the sidelines at both her children’s sporting events.
Mary had a lifelong love of nature. She photographed its beauty, supported organizations that helped preserve and protect it, as well as volunteered for the State of Maine to collect water quality data on Isinglass Pond near her home.
Mary had a unique and special opportunity to travel to the Soviet Union in May 1990 to help the newly democratized country with their medical practices. For this, she learned Russian as well as educated herself on current cultural and political structures. This experience impacted her greatly, and further deepened her love of Russian culture.
After retiring from Maine Medical Center, she was an active member of her local community, enjoying senior luncheons and finding a spiritual home at St. George’s Episcopalian Church in Sanford, ME. Her life’s final chapter was residing at Stroudwater Lodge, where she thrived with the socialization, activities and, in her words, “very good food.”
She is predeceased by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. William Perham, her older brother and his wife, her sister’s husband, and one of her nieces. She is survived by her brother Gerry and his wife Carol, sister Susan, son Jason, daughter Jessica, granddaughter Maddeline, and loving cousins, nieces & nephews.
In Maine, public visiting hours at Jones, Rich & Barnes funeral home at 199 Woodford St. Portland are on Friday, 27-August 2021 from 5-7p. Connecticut graveside burial service will be held at Eastside Cemetery at 157 Pease Rd Woodbridge, CT on Friday, 17-September 2021 at 10am.
