She was born in Brighton, MA on April 19, 1933, the only daughter of John E. Nunziato, Jr. and Cecile Blackburn Nunziato. The family moved to Portland, ME in the 1940’s. Mary went to Sacred Heart School and graduated from Deering High School in 1951. She worked as a hairdresser in her father’s beauty shop on High Street. She married Stanley Fink in 1959 and had three daughters to whom she devoted her entire life. When the girls got older, she worked in retail, retiring from LL Bean in 1996. But she enjoyed being around people, so retirement didn’t last long. She worked at Goodwill Industries in Falmouth until January, 2014.
Mary had an infectious laugh. She could find humor in anything and everything, and she made the best of every situation. She taught her daughters and her granddaughter to be independent women, and they emulated her strength and made her proud. Mary was an avid Red Sox fan and watched every game.
Mary is survived by her daughter Julie Nunziato-Marsters and husband Richard of Saco, her daughter Lori Nunziato of Yarmouth, her daughter Patti Chase and husband Chuck of Gorham, her granddaughter Jenna of Portland and grandson Anthony of Gorham.
Mary will be sadly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to be a part of her life.
Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 pm on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland, where a brief service will follow at 4 pm. A private burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery on Monday.
