MARY FRANCES (RINALDI) TRYNOR, 82, of Portland, passed away peacefully at the South Portland Nursing Home Saturday April 9, 2016, following a battle with Dementia with her loving family by her side. She was born on June 6, 1933, the daughter of Alphonso and Brigida Marrone Rinaldi. She was born and raised in Portland and attended Portland schools. She married Carl R. Trynor at St Peters Roman Catholic Church on August 23, 1958 and had four children: Christopher, Kevin, Shaun, and Andrea.
In her younger years, Mary worked at H.A. Hayes at their food counter as a teenager as well as Casco Box, making gift boxes. Later, she worked at E.G. Burrows while pregnant with her first child until she was nine months along to help her husband attend law school. At E.G. Burrows, she worked with her sisters and sister-in-law. She worked full time until her husband finished law school, then stayed home to raise her children. In the late 1970s, she owned and operated Papa Geppetto’s Pizza (also known as Louie’s Pizza) on Munjoy Hill, for a number of years.
She enjoyed bowling and was on various bowling leagues throughout the years. In high school, Mary was a member of her school’s equestrian team. Playing bingo and the slot machines were favorite past times she enjoyed, especially at Foxwoods. She could play for hours on hours at a slot machine with only $10.00 and enjoyed every second of it. She also loved watching the Boston Red Sox play, especially her favorite players David “Big Papi” Ortiz and “Dusty” Pedroia.
Her children and grandchildren were her world. From getting up at 4 AM to shovel snow so her primary school aged children could get to school, to babysitting her grandchildren, she treasured every moment with them all. She often said, “No one but me watches them until they can speak,” and she made sure of it. She dedicated every Sunday to preparing her famous ziti with meatballs and sausage. She enjoyed cooking large meals for her family and always made sure that everyone had plenty to eat.
In 2008, Mary and her family took a trip to Italy to celebrate Mary’s fiftieth wedding anniversary. It was important for her to see where her parents’ grew up and made it even more special that she could do it with her grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Alphonso and Brigida; her husband Carl; her sister and brother-in-law Camilla and Edmund Savoie; her brother John Rinaldi Sr.; her sister-in-law Marjorie Rinaldi; her brother-in-law Dallas Hood; her brother-in-law Roger Cole, and her granddaughter Julia Trynor.
She is survived by her son Christopher Trynor of Portland; her son Kevin Trynor and his wife Karen of Westbrook; her son Shaun Trynor of Portland; and her daughter Andrea Trynor-Kenney and her husband David of Portland. Mary is survived by her precious grandchildren: granddaughter Kayla Trynor of Portland; granddaughter Moira (Trynor) Burke and her husband Joseph of Gorham; grandson Zachary Kenney of Portland; granddaughter Torie Trynor of Portland: and grandson Kevin (KC) Trynor of Westbrook and her grand-dog Pugslee.
