Portland- Michael P. (“Mike”) Colello, 50, of Portland, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Mike was the son of Michael A. and Janice (DiRenzo) Colello of Portland. He attended Deering High School and graduated from Andover College. Mike worked for many years at Central Maine Power.
Mike’s absolute joy in life was his family and sports. Mike was a life-long Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins fan. He broke stride with Boston sports and was also a devoted Miami Dolphins fan since childhood. It’s not an exaggeration to say he would never miss a game…ever. Michael cherished times with friends and family watching sports and talking, or arguing, about players and statistics. Prior to his passing, Mike was working on Podcasts to share his encyclopedic knowledge of Boston sports. Without exception, everyone who met Mike would become a friend. Mike was simply the nicest and most generous person you could ever meet. He greeted everyone with a smile and usually a bear hug. His smile and charismatic personality would light up every room.
Mike was predeceased by his loving father, Michael A. Colello. He is survived by his devoted mother, Janice Colello of Portland, his loving sister Paula (Colello) McGee, brother-in-law, Mark McGee of Tampa, FL. He is also survived by his uncle Ted DiRenzo of Scarborough and his aunts Julie Boyle and Lugri Flaherty both of Portland. Mike is also survived by numerous loving cousins. Mike absolutely cherished his niece Grace McGee and nephew Jack McGee and he loved showering them both with gifts and treats. Grace and Jack will miss “Uncle Mike” more than words can ever express.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 4-7 pm at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal St. Portland, with Father Michel Seavey celebrating. Interment will follow in New Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
