SCARBOROUGH – Monique R Gendron-Dumont of Scarborough, formerly of Alfred, died on January 22, 2013 at Maine Medical Center with all her 8 children and many grandchildren surrounded around her bed to love and cherish the precious last moments of her life.
Monique was born in LaPatrie, P.Q., Canada on May 27, 1916 the daughter of the late Louis Pouliot and Emma Cote Pouliot, Monique graduated 3rd of her class at what was then called normal school to qualify her as a teacher. Subsequently Monique became a teacher and taught all subjects in a one-room schoolhouse to 45 students from grades 5 to 8th. Her means of travel to the schoolhouse was via her dad with his horse and carriage.
Introduced by one of her cousins, Monique met our Dad, Romeo J Gendron, and subsequently in 1938 married and moved to Sanford and later Alfred to raise a family of eight children. After her farther Louis died, her mother Emma and brother Ronaldo came to live with us. She love family life and instilled in us the love for each other and the gift of spirituality and her love of God and the Catholic faith. As many would attest, Monique was lots of fun to be with and till the end she had an enormous “joie de vivre” and wit that gave us laughter and enjoyment. Monique’s favorite word was “Love”, she bestowed it on everyone she knew. Her Husband, her children, her friends and especially the children of this world, she loved children, every time she encountered them. And they returned her love in so many ways. Her goodness went beyond the norm, patience of an Angel, kindness, even when she had nothing left she would find something to give, especially herself. She was so gentle, and was so soft with lots of love. We are going to miss you so much Mom.
She was a widowed for 25 years until at age 83 she married George Dumont of Augusta, Maine. They shared 8 wonderful years together with family, music and winter vacations in Florida. We all fell in love with George as well; he was so loving and kind to her.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Ronaldo and sister Rolande Halle and husbands Romeo Gendron and George Dumont. She is survived by 5 sons Bernard of NYC and his son Timothy and daughter Sarah, Richard of Portland and his daughters Jennifer and her son Memphis and Rachel and son Michael, John of Portland and his children William, Joseph, Charlie and Caroline; Roger of North Carolina and wife Susan, his sons James, Peter & Theodore and Charlie and wife Theresa of Yarmouth, son Andrew and daughter Eliza and survived by 3 daughters, Rachel & her husband Skip Lucarelli of South Portland and her sons Timothy and wife Tiffany Howes and children Sean, Heather, Brenna and Addison, Mary Elizabeth & husband Jeffrey D'Italia and children Tyler, Rocco and Liam, Matthew and Janine Howes with children Connor & Rory & Sullivan, Michael & Christine Howes and child Lennon, Louise Gendron and son John Peckham, Helen Champagne and step children, Chad Belanger and Champagne stepchildren Carol, Gary, Andrew, Mark, Michael, Roland Jr, Ryan, Bridget, Kathleen and recently deceased Jeffrey.
