

PORTLAND – Norma L. Twyne, retired Navy Chief Petty Officer, 87 of Portland, died on Monday, May 23, 2011 at Seaside Nursing Home. She was born in Brattleboro, Vermont on January 4, 1924 and moved to Maine in 1969.
She served for 20 years in the Navy and retired in 1969 as a Chief Petty Officer. After her retirement from the Navy, she enrolled in the Culinary Arts program at SMTC and received as Associates Degree. She later enrolled in the Certified Nurse’s Assistant course and received her certificate.
She was employed for many years as a CNA at the Jewish Home for the aged and then later at Cedars Nursing Care Facility in Portland. Miss. Twyne was a volunteer at Peabody House until her retirement in 1999. She made a practice of giving sincere compliments to people she did not know and enjoyed their response. She made them feel “special” and was often told, “You’ve made my day!”
Norma was predeceased by her parents; Hazel May (Anderson) and Cecil Wilbur Twyne. She is survived by four sisters, Lottie Viggue of Bonny lake, Washington, Laura Towslee of East Rupert, VT, Sally Tenser of Whiting, VT, Linda Wood of Wells, VT; cousin, Elizabeth Rossi of West Chesterfield, NH and her partner of 35 years, Carolyn A. Pardi of Portland, ME.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 9-10 a.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. followed by a Memorial Service at 10 am at the funeral home.
