1934-2021
Portland, ME- Pauline Davis, 86, a longtime resident of Portland, died on April 14, 2021.
Because of her strong faith in Jesus, she believed she would be reunited with her loved ones in Heaven.
She was born on July 11, 1934, the youngest of six children of Sam G. & Vasilo (Goranites) Davis of Scarborough Maine.
She attended local schools and graduated from Scarborough High School, Class of 1951. She received the American Legion Athletic Award on graduation for her participation in basketball. She further attended Northeastern Business College completing the Secretarial Course. While in school, she worked in her family business, “Sam’s Place”, along with other family members as it expanded from a variety store into a motel and cabin business.
In 1968, the home and business was taken by eminent domain for highway expansion. The remaining property is now Enterprise Business Park. This land was once the location of the Crystal Ice Company, one of the last ice-cutting operations before the advent of refrigeration.
She loved to read and accumulated many books over the years, as a member of a Book Club, many of which were donated. Pauline’s favorite past time was following her brother Duke’s career in thoroughbred horseracing. A devoted nature and animal lover, she always had a cat in residence, most recently, her beloved “Sofia”.
During her business career, she worked in insurance, legal, accounting and tax preparation. In 1988, she and her sister, Mary, co-owned and operated two locations of “My Sister’s Closet” consignment shops. After their sale in 1992, she returned to office work.
Her pride and joy was her Caddy CTS Coupe which she meticulously maintained.
Pauline was predeceased by her parents, brothers, George and Duke, sisters, Helene, Anna and Mary.
She is survived by her special niece, Suzanne Ross of Biddeford Maine, nephews, Terry Davis of Scarborough, Alan Davis of Bradenton, Florida and Vernon Ross of Bangor.
There will be no services, per her wishes. Her ashes will be interred at the family plot at Forest City Cemetery.
“Fleeting as were the dreams of old, remembered like a tale that’s told, we pass away.”
