

Portland- Pauline Heskett Flaherty, 84, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday January 6, 2013. The daughter of Johnston and Alberta (Gillis) Heskett, she was born in Portland ME on January 26, 1928. She attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School. As a teenager, Pauline played violin for the Portland Symphony Orchestra. After graduation she worked for the telephone company, and during this time she met John H. Flaherty Jr. and they were married on September 23, 1950. They lived a brief time in Houlton Maine, but returned to Portland where they bought a house and settled to raise their family. She lived in the same house for over fifty years. She was an active member of the Good Samaritans Club, and the Columbia Rebekah’s Lodge # 46, where she enjoyed playing piano at the meetings. She also enjoyed watching professional sports, but especially loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities. She was predeceased by her husband John of 38 years, and two brothers, Kenneth and Stanley Heskett. She is survived by her daughter Laurie A. King and her husband Richard of Gorham, her son Richard J. Flaherty and his wife Susan of Portland, eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Carrie, Cynthia, Nicole, Terri, Tyler, Brooke, and Ryan, and two great-grandchildren, Anderson, and Elyse and a special sister-in-law Christine Heskett. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Wednesday January 9, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday January 10, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Philip Shearman officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
