Pauline Theresa Polonsky (nee Gauthier) passed peacefully in the home of her niece, Anne, on August 17th, 2023 at the age of 96. Prior to her passing, she had been enjoying leisure time in Maine, swimming, kayaking, and even going on boat rides on the lovely Sabathday Lake. Pauline had spoken often of moving back to Maine and would’ve been happy to know she would spend her last moments there, surrounded by loved ones.
Pauline was born in Rumford ME on April 7th, 1927 as one of eleven siblings. As a young adult, she lived and worked in Germany along with her sister, Shirley. She enjoyed traveling through Europe and was always looking for the next adventure. On December 27th, 1960, she married her husband and father of her two beloved children, Samuel. Together, they raised their family in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Pauline was a dedicated stay at home mother while her children were young and returned to work in the 1970s. She worked in a variety of fields, retiring in her sixties.
For the last 11 years of her life, she resided in NJ, living close to her daughter, son in law, and one grandchild. She enjoyed playing bridge, doing puzzles, watching wildlife documentaries, and devouring novel after novel. She prided herself on being active and self-sufficient. Her granddaughters fondly remember the frequent walks taken together during summers when they were children. In her NJ community, she was socially active and enjoyed the company of many friends.
Pauline is predeceased by her husband and survived by her brother Emile (Pete), daughter Beth, son David, granddaugthers Mara, Megan, and Anya, and many nieces and nephews and well as great-grandchildren.
