Portland- Peter P. Profenno, Jr., 81, of Christy Road, passed away with his family by his side on December 4, 2015, following a brief illness. He was born in Portland, son of Peter Sr. and Antoinette (DiBiase) Profenno. He graduated from Deering High School and later married Mary Bauer on September 8, 1956. They were married for 58 years till her death in January 2015. Peter worked in sales for American Tobacco and later for Hershey Chocolate before opening Profenno’s Restaurant in Westbrook in 1962.
Peter enjoyed going to the annual Thanksgiving football game between Portland and Deering and won the Coach’s Trophy for outstanding backfield play in 1952. As a three sport athlete, he was Captain of the 1953 baseball team and was a member of the All-Telegram Baseball Team as a third baseman.
Peter honorably served in the U.S. Army in Germany where he was selected to play in the U.S. Military European Baseball League. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson Lucas and taking him to his music lessons.
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Camilla Profenno; brothers, Anthony Sr. and John.
He is survived by his sons, Michael E. Profenno and his life partner, William J. Duffy of Wakefield, MA, Daniel P. Profenno of Portland and his former wife, Jessica Bell and their son Lucas Profenno and Jessica’s son, Justin Griffin, Paul J. Profenno of Wells and his former partner, Lisa Cote and her son Dustin Cote; sisters, Nancy Kashinsky and Anna Boswell of Portland. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and customers.
Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation from 4-9 pm on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, December 9th at St. Joseph’s Church, 673 Stevens Ave. Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
