

Tarpon Springs, FL- Philip A. Carroll, 80, formerly of Portland, passed away March 22, 2014 at the Peninsula Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Phil had lived an independent and healthy life and was still driving his car and playing golf regularly before having a stroke in October of 2013. He was born Jan. 4, 1934 to Robert P. Carroll Sr. and Nellie Poland of Portland. He was born and raised in Portland and attended local schools. He managed tire and auto stores in the greater Portland area for most of his career. He was married to his beloved wife Janet for 53 years before her passing 7 years ago. In the early years, they had a small cabin in Rangeley where they would take their two boys Chuck and Phil skiing regularly. They then bought a camp on Pequacket Lake in Limington where Phil loved to have his kids, grandchildren and other family visit to swim, fish,waterski and just enjoy the outdoors. In his later years they moved to Tarpon Springs, Florida where he lived for 25 years. He loved to play golf with his many golf buddies at Lansbrook Golf Course where he had recorded his once in a lifetime hole-in-one. Again, their condo in Florida was always open to friends and family and they made sure that their children and grandchildren would visit regularly. Phil will be missed by all that knew him.
Besides his parents, Phil was predeceased by his wife Janet Carroll and his brother Robert "Pat" Carroll Jr. of Gray. He is survived by his sons Philip and Charles Carroll, his grandsons Nicholas and Dustin Carroll and his granddaughters Jaime Stone, Heidi Turner and Ashley Carroll and 5 great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews from Gray and Portland.
