

Peaks Island - R Paul Landry died unexpectedly at his home on Peaks Island on May 15th.
Paul was born in Springfield Mass. December 15 1933. Son of the late Ralph and Mary Landry. He was predeceased by his brother Charles and sister Doris
.
He attended Technical High School, graduating in 1952, where he was a successful basketball player playing in the state championships at Boston Garden. Paul then enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the 12th AAA Group HQ-HQ BTRY based in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Paul served as a mobile radio operator, where among his duties was to play baseball on the camp commanders team. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal as well as earning the Occupation of Germany Medal and the National Defense Medal. Paul was honorably discharged in 1956.
After Military service Paul attended American International College pursuing a degree in economics and completed commercial and residential appraising at Springfield Technical College. Paul also completed real estate financial courses at the University of Southern Maine. Entering a sales career Paul worked as a salesman for Sweda/Litton Industries. He sold cash registers, real estate and insurance in his long career, retirement didn't hold him back as he was still selling to this day.
Paul and Joyce were married on February 9, 1963, They just celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary while on vacation visiting friends and family in Florida this past winter. They settled in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts where they raised their two sons, Paul and Greg. They purchased their home on Peaks Island in 1968 and spent the summers living on the island before moving there in 1986.
A little know fact about Paul is that he owned three race horses in the early 60's. One of the horses was named Hard Lee and the running joke was that he hardly won! He did win... once.
Paul had a great love for sports like the Celtics and Red Sox. He loved going to see the local Portland Pirates and the Portland Sea Dogs. He was very active in politics and the community. He was the former chairman of the East Longmeadow Democratic town committee for 10 years, a former vice president of the East Longmeadow Jaycees and a former secretary of the Peaks Island Lion Club.
One of Pauls' great passions was his love of his family and traveling, he loved to visit with all his relatives and attended many birthdays and family events. When they traveled to Florida, they made a point of visiting every relative and friend they could. He was a proud father and grandfather.
He loved Peaks Island and especially the back shore where he enjoyed numerous cookouts with family and friends. He loved dogs and loved to give cookies to all the dogs on the island, they will miss him.
Paul is survived by his wife, Joyce, Sister-in-laws, Kay Landry, Agnes White and Karen Brauns, Sons, Paul and Greg, Grandson, Daniel, six nieces Sally-Ann, Joan, Susan, Maureen, Kathy and Debbie, a nephew, Harry and many grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation for Paul will be held this Saturday, May 24th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Paul's memory directly to his family.
