Home surrounded by his loving family.
Ralph was born in Portland on December 22, 1931, the son of the late Angelo and
Stella (Ingerowski) Salamone. He graduated from Deering High School in 1949 and
would further his education at the New England Conservatory of Music from which he
received his Bachelor Degree in 1953. Ralph would continue his education and
achieve his Masters of Education Administration from Boston University in 1959.
In 1953 Ralph was married to his true love Mary Ryan. Together they raised a
beautiful family and enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage.
Ralph began his career as Director of Music in Dalton, MA, and would later relocate to
Southern Maine with his family and serve as Director of Music at both Windham and
later South Portland, ME school districts.
Music was one of Ralph's many passions. He was an accomplished vocal soloist and musician in the Greater Boston area and performed with the New England Opera Theater. Ralph was a
member of the Phi Mu Alpha Symphonia Music Fraternity, the Cumberland County
Retired Educators Association, the Knights of Columbus, and long time communicant of
St. Pius X R.C. Church. Ralph also enjoyed wood carving, and was a passionate
gardener.
Ralph is a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. His
wonderful voice and gracious disposition will be missed by all who knew him.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife Mary (Ryan) Salamone of Portland, ME; a
daughter Anne Harris of Golden's Bridge, NY; three sons, Ralph Salamone Jr. of
Norwalk, Conn.; Christopher Salamone of So. Portland, ME; Kevin Salamone of
Manlius, NY; sisters Anne Andrews of So. Portland, ME; Caroline Flaherty of
Kennebunk, ME; granddaughters, Sarah Harris and Teresa Salamone; grandsons,
Thomas, Jack, Joseph, and Jeffery Salamone and several nieces and nephews.
A 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial for Ralph will be held this Friday, February 1, 2013
at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Ave. Portland, ME.
In lieu of flowers the Salamone family suggests memorials be made in Ralph's memory
to the Cumberland County Retired Educators Assoc. Scholarship Fund c/o Karen Oak, 345 Saco St. 347, Westbrook, ME 04092.
Care for Ralph and his family has been entrusted to the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral
Home of Portland, ME.
