June 4, 1947 - March 28, 2026
Portland- It is with deep love and profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Raymond M. Beland who left this earth on March 28, 2026. He was surrounded by light and the loving care of his family and friends.
Raymond M. Beland was born in Fall River, MA on June 4, 1947 to Raymond L. Beland and Bertha (Dumas) Beland. At an early age, he learned the value of hard work and perseverance, lessons he carried throughout his life. He attended Durfee High School, was an Eagle Scout, served his country in the US Army and then joined New England Telephone as a lineman. As the company evolved so did he in management positions in Switched Services, Security and Project Management. He retired from Verizon after 35 years and went on enjoy another 10 years of “fun” at Lowe’s as a Pro Services Specialist.
In 1995 Raymond married Belinda Miles in Brockton, MA. The 37 years that they spent together was filled with an abundance of love and adventure. They traveled extensively throughout the US and abroad, shared their love of music and fast cars, and spent wonderful times on their vintage Burns-Craft motor yacht, the “Belle-Ray”. They threw the best parties and Raymond was a fabulous host. He had a great sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to share it. He loved animals, saving stray dogs, cats, birds and other wildlife and always had a house full of pets. Raymond had a kind and gentle soul.
Raymond was a renaissance man. He was able to build or fix anything, was ambitious and always had a plan never stopping until his goal was achieved. In his spare time he was a master electrician, licensed plumber, certified oil burner technician, professional photographer, fine cabinet maker and a stained glass artist. Raymond lovingly restored a 107 year old English cottage that he and his wife lived in for 25 years. He expertly renovated their home with fine woodwork, rebuilt the greenhouse and updated the carriage house.
Raymond leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Belinda Miles, his daughter, Rev. Dr. Amber Beland-Schilz, and her husband, Brian Schilz, brother, Roger Beland and his wife, Terri Beland, sister, Yvette Beland, and her husband, Bob Calkins and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Raymond’s kindness, generosity and courage will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who knew him. He will live forever in our hearts.
