Raymond J. McLellan passed away November 6, 2022. He was born October 31, 1939 in Windham, son of Horace and Thelma McLellan. He was a graduate of Windham High School where he was active in sports and the band, later becoming Director of the Town Band. He graduated from the four-year apprentice program at Bath Iron Works where he was employed for 38 years retiring in 1995 as Senior Planner. He also made several trips to Taiwan teaching shipbuilding.
In 1962, he married Lois Smith of Standish and they moved to Yarmouth. They have a cherished daughter and grandson, Linda and Jordan Mooers.
Ray was active in Freemasonry and served as Wor. Master of Casco Lodge #36, High Priest in Cumberland-Mt. Vernon Chapter #35, Illustrious Master in Portland Council #4, Commander in Portland Commandery #2, Grand Treasurer of Grand Chapter/Grand Council and Grand High Priest of Grand Chapter, R.A.M. He was a member of Scottish Rite and served as Thrice Potent Master in Yates Lodge of Perfection. In 2004, in Milwaukee, he received his 33rd degree. He was Past Patron of Winnegance Chapter, O.E.S., and Dad Advisor in Yarmouth Assembly I.O.R.G. He was a member of First Parish Congregational Church, UCC, Yarmouth, serving on Trustees, Diaconate and as Moderator.
Ray enjoyed baking beans and biscuits for the monthly Masonic and church suppers over 50 years. He liked sports, gardening, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He and his wife enjoyed trips to several Caribbean Islands, Europe, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. He also enjoyed cribbage games with his daughter and buddy, Jim.
He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Karen Dawn; brother, Wesley, sisters, Marion McLellan, Ethel Oddi, Grace Merry.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, daughter, Linda and husband, Jay Mooers; grandson, Jordan; sister, Laura Rhodes; brother-in-law, Luther Merry; sister-in-law, Lorraine Gaisford; brother-in-law, Richard Gaisford; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland, ME, where a reception will be held following the service. Burial at Sapling Hill Cemetery in Gorham at 11 am on Monday, November 14, 2022. If desired, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital or the Parkinson's Foundation.
