

Richard attended Portland schools and following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Core. He served in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on February 23, 1952.
Richard married the love of his life, Marion Althea Kalesnick on May 21, 1955 and adopted her daughter Charlotte Louise Kalesnick in 1962.
Richard worked many years for Mobil Oil Company both in Maine and Massachusetts. He was a devoted member of the Scottish Rite Masonry and was proud to have earned the 33 degree; in1996 he was elected to Grand Commander of The Knights Templar. There will be a K.T. honor guard in attendance.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, M. Althea Day of Cumberland; his daughter Charlotte (Day) Young of Freeport; two grandsons, Robert Eberhard and Jeremy Burden; Five sisters Kathryn Nee, Patricia Chandler, Judy Huck, Beverly Romano, and Dorothea Lappin; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, Richard was predeceased by his two brothers, Robert Fountain and William Sandberg, and two sisters, Jean Doughty and Janice Williams Noyes.
Friends may call Friday, July 22, 2016 from 1pm-2pm, with services starting at 2pm, at Jones, Rich, and Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, ME 04103. Services will be performed by The 33rd Scottish Rite Masons and The Grand Commandery Service will be performed by the Grand Commandery.
