He was born on July 20, 1947, in Portland, Maine, to Marlow and Phyllis Dominicus. He attended Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1965. Following graduation, Rick enlisted in the United States Air Force alongside his brother, Nick, and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After his military service, Rick and many of his friends joined the Portland Fire Department. He later relocated to Illinois, where he concluded his distinguished 27-year firefighting career, retiring as a Captain with the Rock Island Fire Department. Following his retirement, Rick returned to Maine and spent the next 10 years working at Unum.
After 32 years apart, Rick reunited with his first love, June Doucette, and the two were married in 2001. Their love story was one of second chances and unwavering devotion. Rick cherished June deeply and spent every day showing his love through his kindness, dedication, and constant care for her. He always went above and beyond to make sure she was happy, cared for, and knew just how much she meant to him.
He loved watching football with his grandson, Michael, and friends and was a devoted fan of the New England Patriots. Rick also enjoyed playing Yahtzee. But above all else, he cherished spending time with his family and friends.
Rick was compassionate, kind, and generous. He will be remembered for his words of wisdom and encouragement, his sharp wit, infectious sense of humor, and gift for storytelling. He always had a joke to tell and could brighten any room with his presence. Rick was also incredibly proud of the man his son, Tim, became and found great joy in watching him follow in his footsteps through his love of theater.
Rick is survived by wife June Dominicus; Brother Nick and wife Edith Dominicus of Windham; Son Tim and wife Tina Dominicus of Davenport Iowa; Step daughter Carla Swann of Raymond; Son in law Danny and wife Lauri Burns of Gray; Grandchildren Michael P and wife Raelene Burns of Windham, Kaitlin and husband Brandon Hazelwood, Emma Dominicus of Davenport Iowa, Cameron Moreau of Raymond; Great grandchildren Ella MacVane-Burns of Gray, Kinslee and Michael D Burns of Windham, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
