Scarborough - Richard Loranger, 57, passed away December 23, 2011 after complications with pneumonia, at the Gosnell Hospice Home, in Scarborough, Maine. He was surrounded by his family. He was born in Machias, Maine on July 3rd, 1954, the second of five sons of the late J. Paul and Ubaldine Loranger.
For a time, Richard was married to Maria Lopez-Ona of New York City. They remained close throughout his lifetime, and the family is grateful for her steadfast love and concern for Richard.
Richard was educated in Portland, a graduate of Cheverus High School, class of 1972. He graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in engineering and later from the Wharton School of Business with a Masters of Business Administration.
Richard began his career with the Exxon Corporation and later worked in the venture capital industry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Although he was disabled for many years, he lived independently in Portland, until recently. He was very bright and had a quick wit. Well versed in everything he chose to read, he remained engaged in the world around him. He followed the Philadelphia area professional sports teams, enjoyed watching grand slam tennis events, and followed politics closely. He had a love of animals, and was especially caring toward the various family dogs, which gravitated toward him.
He is survived by his four brothers, Marc and his wife Patti of Livermore, California, Robert and his wife Deborah of Windham, Francis and his wife Nancy of Portland, and Justin and his wife Lynn also of Portland. In addition he also is survived by four nephews and two nieces, Danielle and Patrick of Livermore, California, Adam of Portland, Jason of Newport Beach, CA, Nathan, Jacob, Griffin and Elisabeth, all of Portland. He is also survived by his step father, Robert Bachand of South Portland and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Foreside Harbor in Falmouth for the wonderful care they provided for Richard during the last year and a half.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 14th at St. Joseph’s Church, 673 Stevens Avenue, Portland, Maine at 11:00 AM.
