Robert, more commonly referred to as Robby or Bob, was born on December 9th, 1954 in Rockland, Maine. He was one of Lloyd G. Mayberry and Faye A. Martin’s four children. Bob attended and graduated from Rockland High School, and not long after, he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he lived for 14 years before returning to the Greater Portland Area. Back in Maine, he would find himself employed by Countryside Butchers. Little did he know that working for this small family business would lead him to meet the love of his life, the daughter of the owner, Ann-Marie Hoglund Mayberry. The two always joked that they “met in a real meat market”. After making her wait for seven years, Bob finally proposed, and they remained married for 28 years until he passed. Robert was a devout family man and a good friend to many. Bob and Ann-Marie had two children of their own, but before them, the two had taken care of their nephew Joseph Hoglund for five years, whom they joked was their first and possibly their favorite child. After Joseph left, they apparently hadn’t had enough, and they took in more of their nieces and nephews, including Danielle Hoglund, Michael Hoglund III, and Julia Hoglund. This was their second round of children whom they loved and cared for deeply. Finally, they had Joshua Robert Maryberry and Emma Louise Mayberry, their third and final set of children, who were their own.
Bob had many collections, some of his most loved being coins, milk bottles, post office boxes, and tools – he had a strong knack for carpentry. He loved old cars, reading, 50’s music, the morning newspaper, and history. He was a homebody, but would travel anywhere to visit a museum or statue he had an interest in, especially if it had to do with the Civil War. Interestingly, he also adored the 2010s show, Glee, and made Emma watch it with him every week when a new episode aired. He would also pick Emma up during the middle of the school day just to go to the movie theater with him, but never told Ann-Marie out of fear. Bob was the type of father who loved his children so much that he refused to put them in daycare and worked the night shift so that his kids could be home with him during the day.
He had the best sense of humor, all the way up to the end. He was loving, kind, and tender. A husband, father, uncle, brother, and friend to many. His loss is one that will be felt deeply by all who knew him. This includes the nurses and caretakers of the Barron Center, where Bob spent his final two years. The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to all those who watched after and provided for him during his time there. We cannot thank you all enough.
Robert is survived by his wife Ann-Marie Hoglund Mayberry, his daughter and princess Emma Louise Mayberry, and his son and pumpkin Joshua Robert Mayberry. His nieces and nephews, Julia, Michael, and Danielle Hoglund, and Danielle’s two children, Natalie and Julien. His “first” child, Joseph Hoglund. His sister Nancy Devani and her husband Steven Devani. His brother Scott Mayberry. His beloved niece Sonya Schofield and her three children, Flynn, Ruby, and Peggy. His lifelong best friend is Jerome Harden. His sister-in-law, Melissa Lamontagne, and her husband, Dave Lamontagne, and nephew, Gage Lamontagne. Robert is predeceased by his mother and father, Faye A. Martin and Lloyd G. Mayberry. His sister Peggy Schofield. His brother-in-law law Michael Alan Hoglund Jr., and his Mother-in-Law, Cheryl Hoglund.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 am - 11 am, with the service following at 11a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland, ME.
