

Her husband, Jules Abramson, died in 1982.
Ruth was born in Portland on June 1, 1920 the daughter of Sam and Edith Nelson. She attended local area schools, and graduated as a Brown Medal Scholar from Portland High School.
After high school, she worked at the U.S. Home Outfitter Company and as the office manager at K+M Manufacturing. She also worked part-time at the Jayson Company, which was co-founded by her husband.
Ruth will be remembered as a strong-willed, independent and family-oriented individual who enjoyed reading, tennis, the arts, travel and volunteering. She played tennis and participated in aerobic dance classes well into her 80's, and particularly enjoyed Portland Stage Company productions for over 30 years.
She was a Docent at the Portland Museum of Art, and a volunteer at the Maine Medical Center Gift Shop. She was also a member of the Women's Board of the Maine General Hospital. She could never say "No" when asked to help or volunteer.
Ruth was a member of Temple Beth El, and Shaarey Tphiloh Synagogue and their respective sisterhoods, and a life member of Hadassah. She was also a charter member of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
She enjoyed being with family and friends at her parents' camp on Little Sebago as well as travelling extensively with her husband Jules, and later in life with her daughter Debra and her family. She cherished all the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by her three children, Stephen A. Abramson and his wife Susan of West Boylston, MA, Susan A. Leonard of Portland and Debra A. Siegel and her husband Ed of Shawnee Mission, KS. She also leaves three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Diane, and Noah Matthew and several nieces and nephews as well as her brothers Robert Nelson and his wife Judy of Marlton, NJ and Melvin Nelson and his wife Rochelle of Flushing, NY. She was predeceased by her sisters Bertha Gorevitz and Rose Milhendler.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Maine Medical Center and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their wonderful care and support.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 15 at Temple Beth El, 400 Deering St., Portland at 11 am. Burial will follow the service at Temple Beth El Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ruth's name may be made to The South Portland Public Library Memorial Branch 155 Wescott Rd. South Portland, ME 04106
