Sally A. Penney passed away on Aug. 22, 2024.
Born on Jun. 14, 1947, in Portland Maine, she was the baby of the family to the Late Richard and Pearl (Newcomb) Harmon. Sally grew up in Portland. It was here she met the love of her life, Edward D. Penney and married in August of 1970.
Sally was always known for being blunt! And if she liked you, you felt it and if she didn’t, she made sure you knew it but in a “nice way”. Sally worked for a short time at Maine Medical Center, where she took pride in cleaning patients’ rooms. She could make you laugh on your darkest days with the mispronunciation of words.
Sally was a former member of Rolling Thunder Westbrook Chapter, and a lifetime member of The Portland Maine Veterans of Foreign wars Post 6859. Sally was always ready for a good time, going to Funtown when her children were younger and into their teen years and going on the rides. If her kids were having a water fight, you bet she was involved! Her biggest thing was going to the Eastern Promenade to watch people kayak. Sally absolutely loved going on her and her husband’s Harley Trike and she was always ready for a ride. She enjoyed all the rides that Rolling Thunder were a part of. She had no fear of anything and just wanted to live life to the fullest! Sally absolutely loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
In 2016 she was diagnosed with stage 3 small cell lung cancer; she received her treatment at Dana Farber and received remarkable care from the BEST doctors in the world. Sally was in remission for almost 8 years and her family can’t thank her oncologist Dr. David Kwiatkowski enough for those 8 years she had left with us. Her family would like to thank the staff at Pine Point for the remarkable care and compassion they showed her the last few months of her life especially her favorite nurse Ryan and CNA Stella.
Sally was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Pearl Harmon, her brother Richard Harmon Jr. and Charles Harmon, and several nieces and nephews.
She leaves behind her Husband Edward D. Penney of 54 years and 1 day. Her daughter Tammy Turcotte and husband Paul Turcotte of Westbrook. Her son Mackenzie Penney and wife Lori Penney of Waterboro. Stepsons: Michael Penney and wife Kathy Penney of S. Portland. Donald Penney of Windham and Junior Penney of Portland. Grandchildren Tylor Ames of Limington. Paige Cavanaugh and Husband Matthew Cavanaugh of Westbrook. Morganne Penney of Dresden. Austin Turcotte of Westbrook and Cameron Penney of Sanford. Great grandchildren, Nova Staples, Madilynn Ames, Mia Cavanaugh, and Madalynn Turcotte. 9 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren. Brother William Harmon of Portland Sister Margaret Gronlund of Old Orchard and sister Sandra Scott and husband Mereald Scott of Mechanic Falls. Several nieces and nephews. And her special friend Kimberly Anthony who was once her home health nurse.
In a Sally fashion, her last favorite words- BITE ME! I did it my way!
