The son of Joseph and Mary Meo Nappi, Sudy was born May 24, 1927, in Portland, ME. where he attended school. On December 4, 1949, he married Charlene Cook, with whom he had five children.
Sudy worked in construction as a young man and later for Hemingway Trucking. A lover of the outdoors, Sudy most enjoyed working for the Maine State Park System -- the job from which he retired.
Sudy enjoyed his passions late in life. An avid sportsman, he continued hunting moose until age 88 and was fond of sitting by the wood stove, reading and birdwatching. He enjoyed traveling frequently to New Mexico, where he could explore the American West. He spent a lot of time on Richmond Island in Cape Elizabeth, sharing his love of nature with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Sudy was a storyteller who would talk to anyone who would lend an ear. He always let his opinion be known, whether positive or negative. You always knew where Sudy stood.
He is survived by Charlene Cook Nappi, his wife of 67 years; and their five children, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. His children include Paul and spouse, Evelyn, of Gray; Frank and spouse, Sue, of New Gloucester; Stephen and partner, Lynn, of Standish; Charlene McHale and spouse, Clint, of South Portland; and Joseph and spouse, Jaeson, of Poland. His grandchildren include Theresa Lofgren, Monica Park, Samuel Nappi, Elizabeth Coyne, Samuel McHale, Kate McHale, Steve Nappi, and Brian Nappi. His great-grandchildren include Kaleb and Kaia Lofgren; Maggie and Moses Park; and Trey, Frankie, and Sam Coyne.
Sudy was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Mary Nightingale and Philomena Madison; his brothers, Benedetto, Toby, and Frank Nappi; and his daughter-in-law, Rhonda L. Nappi.
A private graveside service will be held in the spring.
