Sara Elizabeth McMennamin

Sara (Sally Hanson) McMennamin, 90, passed away on August 1, 2025, after a period of declining health. Sally was born on September 27, 1934, in Portland Maine, the middle of three children born to Ralph and Mary (Sudbay) Hanson.

She is survived and will be missed by her son, Thomas R. DePeter, daughter-in-law, Renee Roy-DePeter, her two granddaughters, Marie DePeter and Emilia DePeter. She will also be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Ruth Hanson, as well as by many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.

Along with her parents, Sally was predeceased by her son, Joseph F. DePeter, Jr., her sister, Constance Harrison, brother-in-law, Frank Harrison, and her brother, Edward Hanson.

Sally grew up in and attended Augusta schools. After graduating from Cony High School, she attended Maine Medical Center’s nursing program in Portland. She worked part-time in that capacity while raising her sons. She retired after having spent 20 years in the role of Office Manager at Berry, Dunn, & McNeil, CPAs, in Portland.

Sally was exceptionally proud of and devoted to her sons. She extended that devotion to her granddaughters who have memories of playing and baking with Na. Sally was an avid reader and loved passing along the “good ones”. She will be remembered as loving, quick-witted, and a colorful storyteller.

A funeral service will be held at Jones, Rich & Barnes at 199 Woodford St. 199 Woodford St. Portland on Saturday, August 9, at 11:00 am. The service will immediately be followed by Sally’s burial at Pine Grove Cemetery in Falmouth.
