Cornish - Scott Nathan Howland, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on December 9, 2018 at his home. Scott was born in Portland, ME on September 29, 1951, the son of Donald M. and Lillian M. (Wallace) Howland.
Scott grew up in Portland, a graduate of Deering High School, class of 1970. After Scott graduated high school he went to work with his father at Howland Homes, selling real estate and building and developing homes. Scott and his cousin Bill Furlong, his lead foreman, started building houses in 1973. Through the years 1973-2015, Scott built 250-300 homes and 15 subdivisions. He also owned and operated used car dealerships. He was a motivated and driven individual with a desire to succeed in life.
He was a private pilot who loved to fly with his brother and father. Scott was an avid skier, like to snowmobile and also enjoyed going to the North Maine Woods with his family at Caribou Lake. One of the things the defined Scott was his passion for his daughter, grandsons and caring for his entire family. He was proud to know he was a direct descendant of The Pilgrim, John Howland, who came over on The Mayflower. One of the things Scott took great pride in was for his fathers service in WWII as a LT in the Army Air Corp. as a Flying Tiger B-24 pilot for General Chenault in China. Another one of Scott's passions was his faith in Christ. He was an active member, trustee and usher at Christ Chapel in Raymond, ME. His desire was to introduce Christ to anyone he met.
Scott is survived by his daughter Candise L. Howland Gonyea and husband Gregory Gonyea; his grandsons, Randall Gregory and Garrett Scott Gonyea; a sister, Claudia J. (Howland) Trimble and her husband William; his cousins, Bill Furlong and Susan (Furlong) Dumler and several nieces and nephews. He was married to Karen (Berger) Howland. In addition to his parents, Scott was predeceased by his siblings, Elizabeth H. Howland and Raymond E. Howland.
Family and friends may call Friday, December 14, 2018 from 4-7pm at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, ME. A Celebration of Scott's life will be held December 15, 2018 at 11 A.M. at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, ME. Honoring Scott's wishes interment will be private.
