Portland-Shirley L. Bibber, 78, of Gorham passed away December 26, 2010 after complications due to a long illness. She was surrounded by her very loving family when she passed.
Shirley was born in Portland on June 18, 1932 to Charles and Gertrude Pooler Woodman. She attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School. She had a long career with the University of Maine Extension Service. Shirley married her true love, Ronald Bibber, on October 14, 1982.
She was a very active person and loved organizing groups. Over the years she was involved with the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H Clubs, Ladies Extension Group, Channel 8 Coffee Club, Scottish Cultural Society of Maine and the Portland Sea Dogs Booster Club.
The things she loved most were her family, cooking (a fantastic cook), art, music, nature and traveling. Some of her life’s best times were big family meals at the dining room table and the family getting together just to have fun. She loved cookouts and had to have burnt red hotdogs! She waited so long to see the Red Sox win the World Series and they finally did it. What a wonderful day!! Some of her fondest memories were spent at Moosehead Lake during the summer.
Shirley will be remembered by her family and all who were fortunate enough for her to have touched their lives.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald E. Bibber of Gorham, a daughter Shelby A. McKenna and her Fiancé Glen “Bucky” Brandow of Standish and a son Greg T. Sirpis also of Standish. She will be greatly missed by her two granddaughters Katie J. McKenna of South Berwick and Kristi L. McKenna of Watertown, MA. as well as the people that we love, that helped us through our loss. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles C. Woodman who passed away on December 26, 2008.
It was Shirley’s final wishes to have a private viewing at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, and a private gathering at Hillside Cemetery in Gorham in the spring when the flowers are blooming.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers please make donations in memory of Shirley L. Bibber to:
