

Stephen Charles Hipsher 66 of Portland Maine died peacefully at his home with his family by his side after a brief illness on Monday, November 23, 2015. He was born on Scott Air Force Base in Allendale Illinois the son of Captain Charles Warren Hipsher and Phyllis Elizabeth Casey. He was married at the Woodfords Congregational Church on April 20, 1973 to Sally Sadler Chilman. He graduated from Deering high school in 1967 and graduated from the University of Maine in 1971 as a literature major. His career choice was carpentry and he spent the majority of his life building houses in the greater Portland area. Although born in Illinois, he moved to Maine when he was three years old. He loved Maine and was an avid fisherman, hunter, snowshoer, and hiker. He loved to canoe and camp. He loved the outdoors regardless of the season. He loved the Boston Red Sox and despised th New York Yankees.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sally Sadler Chilman Hipsher and is by his sons Benjamin Jeffrey Hipsher of San Diego California and Robert Stephen Hipsher of Portland Maine. Also, his brother in law Jeffery Palmer Chilman and family of Gilroy, CA and his sister in law Cynde Chilman Rinne Sadler and family of Finland. Also, his grandson Anthony Austin Hipsher son of Benjamin Hipsher and Jessica Ralph of Las Vegas, NV. His nephew Larry Newth III and his family of Buffalo, NY and Philip Newth and his family of Bowdoin, Maine. Also his nephew Henrik Rinne and family and Anders Rinne and his family both of Helsinki, Finland. Also, his dear mother in law Middy Thomas of Brunswick, Me. He was predeceased by his mother Phyllis Elizabeth Hipsher McKeough, his father Captain Charles Warren Hipsher, his step father Philip McKeough, his sister Linda Hipsher Newth Casey and his sister Mary Elizabeth Hipsher. Visitation and celebration of his life will be Wednesday, December 2 from 2 to 4 PM with a short memorial to follow at the Jones Rich Hutchins Funeral home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, ME 04103.
