Born in Bay City, Michigan, Sue moved to Portland in 2012, accepting an executive position with Portland Public Schools, specializing in labor relations. She previously held similar positions with Broward County Schools (Florida), Lansing Public Schools (Michigan) and Michigan Association of School Boards. She earned her undergraduate and Masters Degree from Michigan State University.
A sharp intellect, quick wit, and an engaging sense of humor endeared her to her friends, family, co-workers, and the many doctors, nurses and medical professionals who assisted her over the past two years, after she survived a grave medical emergency. Her appreciation, and her family’s, go out to those professionals at Maine Medical and New England Rehabilitation Hospital who assisted and cared for her in her recovery.
She was offered friendship, assistance and daily laughs at her residence at Back Bay Towers, notably by Amy, Steve and Michael.
She is survived by her beloved husband Ted Dumala, her sister Maggie Lange and her partner Carola Cadley (Boston), and extended family and friends in Michigan.
There will be no services in Portland. A memorial service will take place in Michigan at a later date.
Donations may be made in her name to Partners in Health (www.pih.org).
Arrangements under the direction of Jones-Rich-Hutchins Funeral Home, Portland, ME.
