

She was the beloved wife of Gerald (Jerry) S. Gordon for 61 years. Sue was born in Portland on July 17, 1935 and was raised by her parents, the late Max Mersky and Katie Winner Mersky.
She was a graduate of Deering High School, attended the University of Maine, and graduated from Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene. Sue attended Camp Lown in Oakland, Maine for many years where she taught archery. She met her husband Jerry there in 1952. They were married in 1956. Sue worked as a dental hygienist in Watertown, MA before returning to Maine.
Sue took great pride in her children and grandchildren. She was a Life Member of the Portland Chapter of Hadassah and managed their program that planted trees in Israel. She was a member of Temple Beth El in Portland and ran the gift shop as a volunteer.
Sue enjoyed knitting, embroidery, and making hand-knotted oriental rugs, which she designed herself. She took great pride in decorating her home with her beautiful handicrafts. She and her family took many trips together in this country, and she enjoyed travel with her husband to many far-off lands including Israel and Europe. One very special trip was a cruise to Alaska with her husband, children and grandchildren to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
In addition to her husband Jerry, Sue is survived by her children Max and daughter-in-law Cantor Donna Gordon of West Hartford, Connecticut, and son Bob and son-in-law Juan of San Francisco, California, as well as two grandchildren, Kasey and Matt. Additionally, Sue will be missed by her sister Barbara (Mersky) Miller and brother-in-law Joseph Miller of Rockville, MD and their children Matthew Miller and Michelle Damare; special cousins Nancy (Winner) Sulkin and her husband Barry Sulkin of Boynton Beach, FL and their children Roberta Sulkin Small and Sheryl Sulkin Saper.
Sue’s family is especially grateful to the caregiving staff at Avita of Stroudwater, Sedgewood Commons of Falmouth, and Beacon Hospice.
A memorial service in her honor will be held at Temple Beth El, 400 Deering Avenue in Portland, on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 11:30 am. Following the memorial service, the burial will be at Temple Beth El Memorial Park, 1 Johnson Road in Portland with a reception lunch to follow, at Jones, Rich and Barnes, 199 Woodford Street in Portland.
