

WINDHAM – Virginia B. Johnson, 93, of Windham, Maine met her savior on April 14, 2017. She was born on February 6, 1925, the daughter of Harry and Fannie Tracey McFarland and was the last surviving of her 8 siblings.
Virginia attended Portland Schools and married the love of her life, Joseph M. Johnson Sr, on May 4, 1942. Virginia worked at Universal Laundry and Songo Shoe for over 20 years, retiring only to care for her mother-in-law, Margaret Johnson. Joseph passed on September 6, 1982 and Virgina moved to Windham in 1999 with her daughter. More heartbreak followed Virginia with the loss of her son, Joseph M. Johnson Jr in May of 2011.
Virginia was a devoted mother and active member of her church stating that her family, church and friends were the root of her happiness. She has been a member of Assembly of God Church, Windham Church of God and Grace for the past 40 years. She loved cooking for her family and working with Linda Hall for Bountiful Blessings Senior Dinners for years.
Virginia is survived by her children; Robert D. Johnson of Madison, Peggy Johnson Peterson of Windham, John T. Johnson of Anson, Brenda Martel and Donna Morton of Westbrook. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Special Thank You to the SPNH who gave her superior care while in the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Unit. Thanks also to the Mercy Hospital ER as well as the 4th floor nursing staff.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Thursday, April 20 from 4-7pm at Grace Church: 628 Gray Road Windham, Maine
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Virginia’s memory to Grace Church.
