William (Willie) John Leuthold of South Portland, Maine, passed away following a brief illness on June 22, 2015. Willie was born December 4, 1962 in Portland, Maine to Mary Nappi Hanlon. Willie attended Woodfords School in Portland. He worked at many local businesses in the Greater Portland area during his lifetime. He most recently worked at Shaw's in Falmouth. Willie was extremely proud of once being featured on a local news channel for his outstanding work at Embassy Suites in South Portland.
Willie was also legendary for his loving and at times mischievous behavior. He once hailed a cab from his residence in South Portland to his job in Falmouth because he was tired of waiting for the bus. Willie however, did not have any money for the cab fare upon arriving at his job. Goodwill staff received a phone call shortly after requesting that a staff member respond to Falmouth and pay for the fare. There were many stories like this that when talked about after the fact, brought many smiles and laughs to all who heard about them. Willie was one for smiles as he most always had one. He was happy to greet others no matter where he was. This was especially true with females.
Willie had a great love for horses and a passion for riding them. He participated in the Riding to the Top program in Windham. His other favorite activities were martial arts, bowling, going to Aroma Joe's, and watching his favorite TV shows Charmed, Walker Texas Ranger, and W.W.E.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Riding to the Top and Creative Trails for providing their services. Bernadette Albert for her endless devotion as an advocate for Willie. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all the residential staff members of Goodwill who contributed to his wonderful quality of life. The care he received was extraordinary and beyond words.
Willie will be sadly missed by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by his loving and devoted mother who he shared many loving memories with. He is survived by his brother Steve Hanlon and his wife Amy of South Portland. His niece Allie and nephew Joey.
There are no visiting hours scheduled. A graveside memorial service will be held July 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Cemetery in South Portland, Maine. On-line condolences can be given to the family at www.jonesrichandhutchins.com. Donations in memory can be given to Goodwill of Maine.
