Adeline Gaeth was born June 11, 1929 in Portland, Oregon, the first child of Joseph and Rosina (Rose) Marino. Adeline’s sister Ida, was born five years later. They grew up on North Terry St. Adeline attended Peninsula Grade School and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947. She was recognized for her achievement in 4-H Club work. She remained friends through the years with many of her classmates.
Adeline married Jack Gaeth on September 4, 1948. At the time, she was working for the Army Corps of Engineers where she met other life-long friends. In September of 1952, she gave birth to her first daughter, the beginning of her family of five children over 10 years. She was a very busy homemaker, sewing, cooking and baking. Nevertheless, she had many friends who got together regularly for Canasta card parties. While busy raising five children, she found time to volunteer for the American Cancer Society and other community and school activities.
As the children became older, Adeline returned to work at Fred Meyer for about 10 years. She then retired to care for her ill husband and spend more time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed travel with her friends and family to Hawaii, New York, the Southwest, Italy and the Oregon Coast.
Adeline loved preparing and hosting holiday dinners or brunches surrounded by her children, grandchildren and later great grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed decorating her home for each holiday, whether it was Christmas or Valentine’s Day.
Adeline is survived by her eldest daughter Linda (Steve), eldest son Michael (Diana), daughter Karen (Kevin), son John (Eileen), grandchildren, Melissa, Amy, John, Joe, Maria, Nick and Megan and great-grandchildren- Gage, Allyson, Mya, Mila and Dominic. Adeline was preceded in death by her son Gary and husband Jack.
