Alan was a loving husband, father, endurance athlete, musician, and Certified Public Accountant.
Born in the Bronx on January 23, 1957, Alan was a native New Yorker who never lost his accent or love for the Yankees and Giants. After graduating in 1979 with a B.S. in accounting from Long Island University, NY he had a long career in public accounting to include Lord and Taylor in NY, Service Corporation International in Houston, TX, Billy Casper Golf in Vienna, VA and Georgia Emergency Associates in Savannah, GA. He moved to Portland, OR with his wife in anticipation of a long retirement in 2016.
His greatest passions were his family, running and playing the guitar. He was known to his friends as the “marathon man” between 2012 and 2021 he ran well over 32,000 miles, usually 10 miles a day and 24 (26.2 mile) marathons this century. Alan and his wife, Leslie, started every New Year’s Day with a 10-mile run as the sun came up to reflect on the year past and the possibilities for the year starting.
Alan loved music, his favorite band was the Rolling Stones and while he was a classic rock guy in his heart, he began to expand his guitar repertoire to include more complex music, though at the end of the day he favored open-G tuning.
Alan was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Sue (Condiotte) Alwiel, also native New Yorkers and his brother Richard Alwiel.
He is survived by his wife Leslie (Siefken) Alwiel, his daughter Keri (Alwiel) Brackett, son Ryan Alwiel, granddaughter Kaylee Brackett, his brothers Larry Alwiel and Bruce Alwiel.
