Alice was born May 13, 1924 in Portland to Charles and Affifi Azar. She was a 1942 graduate of
Commerce H.S. (now Cleveland), and Business College. She worked as an accountant for
The Eddie Mays Restaurant chain, later going into business for herself as a bookkeeper and Tax
Accountant. She retired in 2013.
On February 17, 1951 she married the love of her life, Walt Gilmore in Portland Oregon at Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church. Alice and Walt along with their family enjoyed many trips to the Coast and Camping in the Mountains. They also took frequent RV and Casino trips and loved their multiple vacations to Hawaii. Alice belonged to several community service groups, Mt. Tabor Women’s Association, having been a past President and head of the Mother’s Day luncheon for many years. She later became a member of Lynchwood Church of God until her health prevented her from attending. She was very active in her Sorority Beta Xi and also with her Syrian community.
Alice will always be remembered as the center of her family. She loved to cook and entertain, and her home was always the destination for family gatherings and holidays.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walt in 2002 and her sister Victoria Obeid. She is survived by her five children, Francie Brock (Jim), Sharon Gilmore, Mark Gilmore (Aileen), Karen Portinga (Mark), Janet Kerr (Dan); siblings Albert Azar, Rachel Siri and Jean Miller; grandchildren Allison, Curtis, Wyatt, Melanie, Tyler, Lauren and Bobby; great-grandchildren Shay, Kai, Damon, Hunter, Broc and Ella.

A viewing will be held on Thursday October 18th between 5-8 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Friday, October 19 at 11 am at Lynchwood Church of God, 3818 SE 174th Avenue in Portland. Burial at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery will then take place at 1:00 pm, followed by a reception at St. George Orthodox Church, 2121 NE 162nd Avenue in Portland.
