

Allen Arnold Johnson was born on April 29, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to parents Edwin Hjalmer Johnson and Saima Elizabeth Johnson (Patron). He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the last years of the Second World War. In 1955 he married the love of his life Mary Gwendolyn Harris. Several years after marriage Allen and Mary welcomed their son James to whom they were forever devoted.
Allen worked in the rail industry for more than 35 years. He began in the rail yards at Spokane Portland & Seattle Railway (SP&S) and over the years became Supervisor of Administration with Burlington Northern (BSNF). Allen’s joyous life was filled with purpose and fellowship through his active involvement as a Freemason and Shriner. His membership in these fraternal organizations and selfless commitment to helping others was deeply important. Allen was extremely proud of his Finnish heritage and exemplified a person who lives their life with “sisu:” determination, tenacity of purpose, bravery and resilience.
Allen passed away on December 12, 2020. Funeral arrangements are being made through Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services –Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes. In honor of his military service he will be privately interred at Willamette National Cemetery. Allen is preceded in death by his wife, father and mother, sister Yvonne Johnson and brother Donald Johnson. He is survived by his son James Johnson, sister Mary Ann Steffani, sister-in-law Lois Johnson, cousin Adrienne Gorman and many beloved nieces and nephews.
His family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Cherry Blossom Cottage who lovingly embraced and cared for him throughout his residency. His love of life, family and friends, community, animals and a great gin martini will never be forgotten.
