Annabelle L. Colebank was born to parents Robert E. and Willy P. (Bargsley) Colebank on July 5th, 1920, in Justiceburg, Texas. Annabelle grew up in Arkansas and worked very hard supporting the family farm. She met William V. Greene in Arkansas. They were married on Christmas Eve, 1940, in Sebastian, Arkansas. In 1943, they relocated to Portland, Oregon (St. Johns) and began a new chapter in their lives together. They had two children, sons Gerald and William. As a new resident of Portland, Annabelle went to work in the Portland Shipyards to support the war effort.
The two remained in the St. Johns area of Portland for their entire lives. Annabelle was very involved in her community in St. Johns. She was active in many community activities and organizations. She volunteered for countless things, including local elections, and she was a member of T.O.P.S., P.T.A., Thousand Trails, and a Travel Club, just to name a few. Annabelle enjoyed engaging with her community members and it has been said that she opened her home up to “anyone, anytime”. She was organized, strong willed, determined, and was not afraid to speak her mind when there was a need to be heard.
Annabelle was also a gifted artist and enjoyed oil painting landscapes and still life subjects. She also enjoyed working with ceramics. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling in a motorhome and getting out into the outdoors. She encouraged others to travel with her; “the more the merrier”. She loved to visit the beach, too. Her favorite thing of all was being near her family. She was a proud of her family and she will be remembered as a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
At the age of 92, Annabelle passed away in Portland; peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Annabelle’s family would like to make a special mention of the attentive and loving care given her by her granddaughter Tara Killam (with the help of Matt Greene, Kaelynn Killam, as well as the rest of the family) over the last two years as Annabelle faced many health challenges and the emotional difficulty of losing her sons Gerald and William. You gave her so much comfort and support when she needed it. Thank you.
Annabelle is predeceased by her parents Robert and Willy; her Husband William V. Greene, Sr. (11/9/1983); sons Gerald “Jerry” Greene (10/10/2010) and William V. Greene, Jr., (06/20/2010). Survivors include her companion, Delbert “Andy” Anderson; Daughter-in-law, Maxine Sullivan; grandchildren, Gary Greene of VA, Matthew Greene of Long Beach, WA, Nicholas Greene-Killam (wife Angela) of Portland; and Tara Killam (Michael Porter) of Portland; and great-grandchildren Cortany, Alyssa, Jeffrey, and Kaelynn.
