

Anne Kindling Friedhoff was born on Oct 20, 1919 in Losonc, Slovakia ( then Hungary ). Along with her family, she came to America in 1926 through Ellis Island. She grew up in Pittsburg and later attended Duquesne University where she majored in Business. When the Second World War broke out she joined the Navy where she served as a pilot and disbursing officer. It was while in the Navy that she met and married another Naval officer, John Friedhoff. After the war they moved to Portland where John took a job at the phone company and Anne busied herself raising their five children, all of whom became classical musicians due to Anne's encouragement.
Anne was a member of Holy Rosary Church on Clackamas avenue where she worked as the parish librarian. She was also active in the Republican party as a district organizer during the Goldwater years. She was also an outspoken defender of the Right to Life, from conception til natural death.
Being proud of her Hungarian roots, Anne kept a keen interest in the politics her birth country and had a strong devotion to Cardinal Mindszenty.
Anne was an avid collector and frequented Portland's second hand stores and thrift shops in search of baskets, books, china and other items that caught her sharp eye.
Anne passed away on Monday, May 18th. She is survived by her three sons, George, Paul, Mark and two daughters, Jolan and Barbara. She was also the proud grandmother of George, Alexander, Paloma, Mark, Artur, Isaac and two grandchildren, Violet and Holden. Mass of Christian burial will be at Holy Rosary Church on NE Clackamas on Tuesday, May 26 at 9:30 preceded by the Rosary.
