Annie M. Harris was born November 21, 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama to Alfonzo and Virginia Harper. She was the oldest of seven children. At an early age Annie confessed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the First Baptist Church in Eureka, the small community she grew up in as a child in Birmingham.
Annie attended Eureka Elementary School. After graduating from Eureka Elementary School she enrolled in A.H. Parker High School in 1941 and graduated in 1945.
After graduating from Parker High School, Annie attended the Ruth Poro of Beauty Culture.
While attending A.H. Parker High School, her best friend, Dian Harris, introduced her to her brother, Carl, the love of her life. After a short courtship, the two were married and moved away the next day to Oregon, where Carl heard about new opportunities for working in the shipyards in Vanport, Oregon. Annie joined Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in 1946 and served the Lord faithfully and sang in the Chancel Choir for over 40 years, where her husband was the Musical Director. She continued to attend church regularly and was a member of the Oasis Ministry until her health started failing.
Annie and Carl were blessed with the birth of their one and only son, Frederick in 1947.
Annie worked briefly at the County hospital (now OHSU). She then applied for and was hired at what was then called Pacific Northwest Bell, today known as Century Link. Annie would work at PNB for the next 30 years until her retirement at 55. Annie found retirement life boring after a few months and applied for and was hired by Wakenhut Security. The company assigned her as security for Portland International Airport. Annie never missed a day and after a couple of years was promoted to Supervisor and worked that position for the next 7 years before her second and final retirement.
Annie is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Alfonzo and Virginia Harper, brother, Willie Alfonzo Harper, Jr.; sister, Lois G. Jackson; and sister, Constance G. Sharpe. She leaves to cherish her memories, son, Frederick Harris(Cindy); brother, Edgar Harper (Charlester); sister, Mary Hardy (Charlie); sister, Linda Wright (Ralph); sister-in-law, Dian Jackson, five grandchildren, Frederick Harris II (Yesmin); Erik Harris (Lane), Tiffany Harris, Brysen Harris and Brittany Harris. Four great grandchildren Mizael Harris, Tatiana Harris, Tyson Moore, and Zakai Harris.
The light of the Lord shined brightly on Annie Harris and in return we were blessed with her gentle spirit and outgoing personality.
