Anthony “Tony” F. Baechler Jr. passed away on February 1, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born in Portland, Oregon to the late Anthony and Leona Baechler. He lived with his parents and three brothers and two sisters.
Tony was an ambitious child and became a paper boy at a young age. He learned much about people and business that he would use to success later in his life. He proudly joined the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam Era.
He always had aspired to be a Deputy Sheriff and when he left the service he attended college for Police Sciences. Tony became employed as Deputy Sheriff for Clackamas County Oregon for some time before taking a position as Police Officer with the City of Silverton, Oregon. In 1976, Tony went to work for Lane County Sheriff’s Office in Eugene, Oregon where he remained until he retired in 1988. He received a promotion to Detective and later, Sergeant with the department. His main assignment was to patrol the McKenzie River District, where he was known as “Sheriff Tony”. He received many awards, including Meritorious Service.
Anthony relocated to San Diego California and followed his other dream to conduct Private Investigations starting in 1988. He eventually incorporated Baechler Investigative Services. He operated the business with several employees investigating various crimes, fraud and other legal matters until his death.
Tony served on a high school community Board as a liason and the Neighborhood Watch as a liason. He also was the President of the Board of Lutheran High School. He was a college level instructor in Police Sciences in general, and in many specific specialty areas of police and private investigations. He received National Leadership Award 2003 (NRCC), California Businessman of the Year 2004 (NRCC), and was a Member Who’s Who in Executive and Professionals.
His hobbies included making various sausages and smoked meats, target shooting, watching baseball games and spending time with his beloved cats.
He was always friendly, helpful and positive. He has been admired for his inimitable personality.
He will be remembered lovingly by his wife of 40 years, Barbara, his daughter, Paula McCarthy of South Carolina, his daughter, Traci Aders of Oregon his son, Jeremiah and his son, Anthony III, 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, his sister Rosemary French of Montana, his brother John, brother Bill, sister Pat Oriet, and brother Michael of Oregon and a myriad of in-laws, nieces, nephews and good friends.
Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
