April Hope (Meade) Mahone, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Banks, OR on June 2nd, 2024. She had family by her side as she left this earth and entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus.
April was born on April 4, 1941, in Omaha, NE to Kenneth & Kathlyn Meade. She spent most of her childhood moving between Omaha and Kingsport, TN as her dad was in sales. The family eventually moved to So. Cal where she graduated from Reseda High School in 1959. In 1964 she graduated from Yankton College in SD.
After graduation, April returned to CA where she worked for Deluxe Check Printers, until her retirement in 1986. It was at Deluxe that she met Gary R. Mahone and they were married on May 20, 1967. Shortly thereafter, Gary & April decided to move to Oregon to start a family. Thankfully, Deluxe had jobs there for both of them!
In May of 1970, they had their first and only child, Shannon.
April enjoyed anything that involved time with family. Many years were spent camping all over the NW and into CA. She was a huge supporter of Gary’s car habit. She quietly served behind the scenes through Shannon’s horse show years. For about 12 years, she was an avid Portland Winterhawks fan, travelling all over the Pacific NW & Canada to watch her boys play hockey. She and Gary were even a host family to many of the boys that played in Portland.
After retirement, there were some snow-birding trips to AZ and then lots of camping trips with the grandkids. To everyone’s annoyance, she always made sure that every memory and milestone was captured in a photo - for that we are now forever grateful. April also loved to read and watch NCIS. She is probably best known for her impeccable record keeping. She LOVED making spreadsheets and tracking just about everything!
April was preceded in death by Gary, (her husband of 54 years) and is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Jeff) Lilly, and her grandsons, Jeremy (Caitlyn) & Tyler Lilly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 29, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Dayspring Christian Fellowship in Banks, OR. Any donations in her memory can be made to Dayspring.
