

On Thursday, November 19, 2020, Arlene, loving wife and mother of four, passed away at the age of 85 in Happy Valley, OR. Arlene graduated from Washington High School in 1952 and went on to obtain her Bachelors in Education from the University of Portland in 1956. Arlene married Larry J. Thieman on May 27th, 1961. Arlene had a love for kids and excelled as a grade school teacher. She was an avid antique collector, owning the shop Strawberry Patches in two locations, Johns Landing and Sellwood.
Outside of her career, Arlene devoted herself to her family, taking care of her four children and volunteering many hours at St. Rose Church. Arlene was a dedicated Christian, walking the faith in her everyday life through powerful prayer, working with many faith-centered foundations, and making a lasting impact on her family's faith journey. Over the years, she was very involved with her church, The Angel Tree Prison Fellowship Program, Oregon Free From Drug Abuse, and Operation Shoebox.
Arlene loved gathering her family together, decorating her home, and preparing her famous Italian meat sauce. She enjoyed trips to the Washington Park Rose Garden, her daily walks, ice cream and time with her grandchildren.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Larry J. Thieman; daughter, Maria Kent; sons, Ted and Mitch Thieman; son-in-law, Kenneth Kent; daughter-in-law, Tammy Thieman; and her beloved grandchildren, Emily, Julia, Emerson and Stella. She is preceded in death by her younger brother, Darryl; oldest son, Perry; and her grandson, Matthew.
A memorial celebration of life will be held when it's safe to gather and restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Angel Tree Program or The Alzheimer’s Association.
