Arley was born on March 13th, 1925, to Arley and Edna Hartley in Portland, Oregon, attended Kennedy Grade School and Jefferson High School and entered the army immediately after graduation. After being discharged from the army at the end of WW II, he spent 40 years as a lithographer with the Corps of Engineers.
Arley was introduced to Mira Glavan by a mutual friend; they married in 1954 and celebrated 66 years of marriage prior to her death in 2019. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and enjoyed gardening, photography and outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, camping and mushroom hunting with his family. He is survived by his sister Audrey; children Carol Allee (John), Alan Hartley (Candace), Kay Hartley, Brenda Durnil (Tim); grandchildren Rachel, Nichole, Lanna, Casey, Elizabeth, Lydia and Rie'; and four great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on October 3rd, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Providence Portland Medical Foundation for Cancer Research, Unit 56, P.O.Box 4500, Portland, OR, 97208-4500.
