March 10, 1924 – October 30, 2018
Barbara Ann (Sweeney) Fanger passed from this life into the l loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 30, 2018. She was born in McMinnville, Oregon to Philip Brooks and Muriel Sweeney. and was raised on the family farm in Dayton, Oregon, the eldest of two other siblings, Phyllis and Sam. She attended elementary and secondary school in the Dayton area. Upon graduation she enrolled at Oregon State College where she met her future husband Carleton Fanger who proceeded her in death in 2006. They married on August 12, 1945 and she began the greatest vocation in life…..that is…. becoming a homemaker and eventually a mother of three children. After the family was raised and “sprung” she turned to other activities. She volunteered for over twenty years at the Portland Adventist Medical Center and found great joy and satisfaction in that. She was known for her sewing of clothes for family and self. She enjoyed the beautiful flowers that she planted and cared for…especially the roses. She loved to garden and grew her tomatoes in competition with her younger brother Sam to see who could get the first ripe tomato. She also was known for her baked goods…especially the cookies and the Swedish Tea Rings that were made for Christmas and passed around to friends and family who received them with great joy. And boy…. could she make a mean potato salad which Sam and eldest son Rick would almost go to war over. Her soft gentle voice was known by all the family. But… what stands out more than anything else was her strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. This was the corner stone of her life. She will be sorely missed but not forgotten.
She is survived by her three adult children…Carleton G Fanger II ……Kerrilou Ann Fanger…. and James Philp Fanger. She has five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. The family requests that no gifts or flowers be given.
