Barbara Inge Masterson

May 19, 1944October 26, 2019

We have lost to the heavens a dear, dear friend. A beloved Catholic, she accepts that her tie has come and it is the will of God to take her in his compassionate and caressing arms. For 17 years, Barbara put up the most valiant fight against the sarcoma that ravaged most parts of her body. But even through all the pain and suffering she maintained her positive attitude, engaging and endearing personality and dignified caring way for others. She was an amazing, loving, and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She also leaves fond, lasting memories for her German and American brothers and sisters. She adds her well wishes to all her multitude of friends over the years and a thank you and "air hugs" for your kindness and friendship over the past decades. Her mantra was to live every day to it's fullest. And she did!!

An award winning member of the Oregon Society of Artists and a renowned plein air artist, Barbara continued being a docent and patron at the Portland Art Museum and the Pittock Mansion. She especially enjoyed giving tours to children. As many of you know, besides art, she loved to travel and would not miss an opportunity to visit great sights, both locally and abroad.

Barbara was the very picture of life, and a moving picture at that! We will miss her dearly but are also confident that she is resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus.

We are also so grateful for the time that we all spent together last Spring.

Mike you and the kids are in our thoughts and prayers.

She was such a beautiful person, inside and out. My mom knew her for so many years and will miss catching up with her. God has her in his loving arms now and we pray for strength for her family and all her friends.

Sadness and grief has come over me in waves along with so many memories. We met in a science class in 1974 - I could follow a formula and you gave the presentations on our projects - they were rather animated explanations about bacteria & germs...very entertaining. You brought enthusiasm and whole hearted commitment to everything ...your volunteerism, your art, your family and friends. You will always be my friend for the rest of my days. You sent me 2 birthday cards wishing me joy and to “enjoy every day” ...I will do my best to follow your advice & to honor you. My love and sympathy to Michael, Meagan & Kevin. Destyn LaPorte

So many visits, so many trips and so many laughs with every memory. Barbara was an important part of our family, and her vivacious spirit will remain forever in our hearts.

Our hearts are so heavy since receiving the beautifully written card today celebrating the life of Barbara today. I look around at all of the beautiful ceramic pieces that she made for us through the years - each one very precious to us. She was one of a kind - a beautiful lady inside and out. We remember the wonderful Oktoberfest parties at the Mastersons, watching Megan and Kevin grow up, and seeing Michael and Barbara together and the love they shared. Here is a photo from 2006. I cannot help to smile when I think of her.

Dear Sweet Barbara. Remember the times at Menucha Creative Arts. Expectantly your enthusiasm for plein air painting. New we can see you with the angels, splashing paint, shaking water out of your brush and getting so excited about this color and that shape. "Look at that, look at that, did you see that?" We can hear you now. The joy that you must be feeling now to be where you are to paint!

Barb was a force. I knew her through our artist community at art camp at Menucha. Over the years we shared many classes together. She was always so encouraging, helpful, kind and complimentary to others in our classes and to other campers in general. She was so talented herself, but always gave beginners such positive feedback. Barb always had a smile for all and I will truly miss her wonderful spirit.
