Greetings and my condolences to the family and friends of Barbara Moss,

I met Barbara in October,  2002, when I answered an add she put in the local Ashland, Oregon newspaper.  She was selling her 1981 Toyota motor home and it was just the size I was looking for. 

When I went to her house in Ashland she told me of the travels of her late husband and herself and how she hoped to sell it to someone who would keep their trusty motor home on the road, not just let it sit dormant in the driveway.  Her kids didn't want her to travel by herself anymore and if I remember correctly she was in her 70's when I bought the motor home. I was 41 and working as a counselor in the upper Rogue River rural schools and needed a traveling office/sleeping space so I could camp out instead of driving to and from Ashland everyday. 

She shared her passion for travel and encouraged me to keep going and explore despite warnings from others of the dangers of traveling solo for women. By the end of our meeting she decided I could buy the motor home and I promised to keep traveling.
It's been a memorable 20 years with 'Ms. Liberty', a title earned by the endurance of the 22R engine that carried us to and from Louisiana, twice, and sheltered me during an "address challenged" 6 months. I remodeled the interior to be open and lightened the load considerably by removing all the cabinets. I had the engine replaced this year in hopes of another, long awaited, roadtrip to any of the areas I've been considering over the past 2 years.

I often smile when I think of Barbara and send her thoughts of gratitude when I'm tooling along some back road or camping overnight in a Walmart parking lot. She inspired me to go, to get out there and see our country, by myself, and relish in the adventure of it all.

What an amazing gift she was in my life!
