Bert K. Rogers of Southwest Portland, a former teacher, died on August 19, 2015. He was born January 28, 1925 in Earville, Iowa. He moved with his family to Southwestern Wisconsin at the age of one year. He attended grade and high school in Darlington, Wisconsin. He entered the Army on April 9, 1943 ans saw duty in Europe. Mr. Rogers was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star as well as four campaign ribbons. He was discharged from the service on October 6, 1945. He married Velma Piper on March 30, 1946 in Holton, Kansas. She preceded him in death. They were married over 49 years. Mr. Rogers received his B.S. degree in 1949 and his M.S. degree in 1950, both from Kansas State College, Pittsburg, Kansas. He was a teacher and administrator for seven years in Kansas. He was a math teacher and counselor for more than 25 years at Lincoln High School in Portland. He is survived by one sister, June Severns of Atwater, Ca. At his request, there will be no funeral services. The family requests remembrances be made to the Humane Society.
