

Jim was born on October 21, 1941, to Bonnell, Sr. and Nedra, in Honolulu Hawaii. From a young age, he demonstrated a deep sense of duty and commitment to service, traits that would define his life. After graduating from Honolulu High School, he enlisted in the Air Force and began a career that spanned 25 years of dedicated service to his country.
Throughout his military career, Jim exemplified courage, resilience, and honor. He served in numerous deployments and assignments, demonstrating leadership and earning the respect of his comrades. His unwavering dedication to his fellow soldiers and to the principles of service earned him several commendations, including the Good Conduct Medal and the Longevity Service honors.
Beyond his military service, he was a husband to Marilyn K. Piering, a father to Barbara and Robert, and grandfather to Casandra, Kyle and Dylan. He was a pillar of strength and support to his family, especially his younger siblings, Diana Truffa, Robyn Springer, Melinda Rameriz and Jeffrey Quiocho, always ensuring they were looked after.
After retirement from military service, he began working for Bell Telephone and continued to contribute to his community, volunteering his time and expertise to various causes close to his heart, such as Junior Achievement and Lion’s Club. He enjoyed photography and travelling, finding joy in the pleasures of life surrounded by family and friends.
Jim's legacy lives on through his family, and all those who had the privilege of serving alongside him. He will be missed and remembered for his selflessness, bravery, and unwavering commitment to family and duty.
A full military, graveside memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, July 5th at 1:30pm in Portland, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to Heart or Cancer research.
In our hearts forever, his spirit will continue to inspire us to live with honor, courage, and compassion. May he rest in peace, knowing his life had a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
