Carol earned a college degree in teaching at the University of Minnesota. A woman of faith, she was a Christian and a Mormon.
Carol was first married to Frank Hooks, who preceded her in death in 1983. She later married Jack Hershey, who preceded her in death in 2018. Throughout her life, Carol’s love for home and family was expressed in the everyday acts that matter most—especially her care for those she loved. She would want to be remembered for always taking care of and loving her family, a legacy of devotion that will remain close to the hearts of those who knew her best.
Those who spent time with Carol will remember the simple pleasures that brought her joy: cooking—especially making soups—reading, and working on puzzles with patient focus. She also loved to travel, carrying with her a practical wisdom captured in her favorite saying, “waste not, want not,” a phrase that reflected her thoughtful, measured approach to life.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Erica Tindall; her granddaughter, Sierra Diamond-Mayo; her grandsons, Demetrius Diamond, Logan Tindall, and Noah Wood; and her great-grandchildren, Sinia Mayo and Samara Mayo.
Visitation will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt Scott Blvd., Portland, OR 97086, on May 20, 2026, at 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm. Burial will take place at Willamette National Cemetery.
