Carol was born in Portland, Oregon, to parents Charles H. Irwin and Elizabeth K. Irwin also of Portland. She attended school at Clinton Kelly and St. Peter’s Elementary Schools and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1979. Following some college and various employment activity in the Portland area, Carol found her niche as a dispatcher at the Bureau of Emergency Communications (BOEC) for approximately 30 years. Carol was a responsible and responsive employee at BOEC. She was instrumental in saving the lives of myriad Portland area residents. In honor of her service, she was decorated with a Commendation Medal, particularly highlighting her professionalism in the 2008 timeframe. Carol retired from BOEC in 2014.
Outside of work, Carol was a loyal and generous friend to too many to count. She consistently gave of herself and her assets with no desire for remuneration, whether it be giving hams and turkeys for BOEC over the holidays or donating funds to a Haitian disaster fund. Carol was also a dedicated pet owner. Her reciprocal unconditional loving bond with her boxer Ellie touched all whom she met.
Carol is survived by her brother Charles P. Irwin and her sister-in-law Mary S. Irwin currently of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
