

Carolyn was born in Portland. The Daughter of Clarence and Hildur Fitzwater. She attended Laurelhurst Grade School, Washington High (1953) and Oregon State (1958)She taught P.E. and coached softball at Gresham , Centennial, and Grant High Schools (30 years). In 1979 The Oregon Athletic Coaches Association named her softball coach of the year.
Carolyn played shortstop and second base for the Erv. Lind Florists from 1950 to 1964, when the team won a National Championship. She was inducted into the American Softball Association Hall of Fame and The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1992. Carolyn was an inspiration to her students, her fans and her friends.
Upon retirement Carolyn and Lee enjoyed Cruises, traveling in their Motorhome and spending time at their beach house.
She is survived by her spouse and Best Friend of 40 years Lee Cook, her Sister in Law Patsy, Nephews Wes and Wally Fitzwater, Nieces, Jacque McGinnis and Juli Fitzwater , her loyal puppies Pepper and Sophie, and an amazing number of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Dean. Carolyn lived an amazing life and she was loved and cherished every day.
On May 31, 2014, A Celebration of Carolyn’s Life will be held at The Milwaukie Center, 5440 SE Kellogg Creek Road, Milwaukie, OR from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. with Remembrances at 2:pm. Friends will be invited to share memories. Following, light refreshments will be served and friends are invited to stay and visit with the family and with each other.
